Partial Patterns on a String (c), 2017

for string quintet | ca. 20’ | commissioned and performed by Phil Collins and New Music Works Ensemble, in Santa Cruz, CA

 

Part of a larger series of works exploring the hidden symmetry and patterns derived from the organization of harmonic partials on a string. In this piece, for string quintet, all the open strings are re-tuned to create the harmonic series of the low double bass open string.
