excerpt

Partial Patterns on a String

a modular collection of acoustic patterns

Partial Patterns on a String | for string quintet

Part of a larger series of works exploring the hidden symmetry and patterns derived from the organization of harmonic partials on a string. In this piece, for string quintet, all the open strings are re-tuned to create the harmonic series of the low double bass open string.

The piece was commissioned and performed by Phil Collins and New Music Works Ensemble, in Santa Cruz, CA
